Every October 16 (or the nearest workday), people across the country take a moment to recognize the leaders who guide, support, and inspire their teams. That’s what Boss’s Day is all about — saying thank you to the people who make work feel like family.

A Little History Behind Boss’s Day
Boss’s Day was first registered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958 by Patricia Bays Haroski, a secretary at State Farm Insurance in Deerfield, Illinois. She chose October 16, her father’s birthday, to honor him — and to promote stronger relationships between employees and supervisors.
Four years later, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner officially proclaimed Boss’s Day a state observance. It didn’t take long for the idea to spread nationwide — and by 1979, Hallmark began printing Boss’s Day cards, helping make the day a workplace tradition.
While it’s not a federal holiday, National Boss’s Day has grown into an opportunity to show genuine appreciation for the people who provide leadership, mentorship, and encouragement in our professional lives.
