May is National Small Business Month—a time to celebrate the hard work, passion, and dedication it takes to run a small business. At Santoni’s Marketplace, we’re proud to be part of that tradition right here in Glyndon, MD, where we’ve served the community as a family-owned business since 1986.

But the Santoni’s story began long before our doors opened in Glyndon.

Back in 1931, Lou and Rick’s grandparents opened the original Santoni’s grocery store in their Baltimore home. It was a true neighborhood store—founded on family values, strong work ethic, and a deep connection to the local community. That legacy continued through the generations, including their Uncle Bob, who owned and operated the Baltimore location for many years.

Just recently, Uncle Bob stopped by for a visit, and it turned into a wonderful afternoon of catching up and reminiscing. They shared stories of the early Santoni grocery days—the long hours, the loyal customers, the family meals in the back room—and how much the business has grown, while still holding onto its roots.

As we reflect on our history this Small Business Month, we feel incredibly grateful. Grateful for our team, our loyal customers, and the Glyndon community that supports us year after year. Being a small business means more than just running a store—it means being part of people’s lives, their celebrations, their everyday routines, and their traditions.

Thank you for letting us be part of yours
